5 Best Cosmetic Mods for the MKV Toyota GR Supra (2020–2026)

By Raymond Ma7 min read

The MKV Toyota GR Supra already looks special from the outside. The long hood, double-bubble roof and wide rear haunches do most of the work. Cosmetic mods are for owners who want the car to look and feel more like their own without chasing horsepower. This guide covers five upgrades for 2020–2026 A90 / A91 cars, what to decide before you buy, and the fitment details that trip people up.

1. A custom steering wheel

You see the exterior when you walk up to the car. From the driver’s seat, the steering wheel frames the cockpit and is the part you interact with every trip. To us, the factory wheel is the least special part of the Supra’s cabin. It looks bulky and generic, with a large, plain center and a shape that doesn’t match the drama of the bodywork. If the cabin feels ordinary compared with the outside, changing that focal point is where we’d start.

A G8X LCI-style wheel gives the cockpit a new focal point: a sharper rim shape, a 12 o’clock stripe, contrast stitching and carbon fiber trim. The decisions that matter:

  • Rim material. Smooth leather, perforated leather sides, Alcantara sides or full Alcantara. Alcantara has a soft, grippy feel. Keeping it looking fresh takes more regular cleaning than leather does.
  • Stitching and stripe. Match the exterior paint, the interior or nothing at all. A black-on-black build with a single red stripe is subtle. Tri-color stitching is not.
  • Transmission. Manual builds have a clean rim with no paddle shifters. Automatic builds include carbon fiber paddles, and magnetic paddles are an optional upgrade on automatic builds only.
  • M1 / M2 buttons. The optional red M1 and M2 buttons are functional and come with the wiring harness they need.

Fitment and install: before production, we ask for your model year, trim, transmission and whether your factory wheel has the extra tech / driver-assistance buttons. We review that information before your wheel is built. Every wheel comes with an airbag with the Toyota emblem, multifunction controls and carbon fiber trim. Arrange installation with a qualified professional who follows the relevant airbag and electrical procedures. Wheels are made to order: production takes 4–6 weeks.

Open the steering wheel builder to try materials, stitching and stripes on your build, or read the fitment and installation FAQ. Builder images are rendered previews, not photos of a finished wheel. Actual materials and colors may vary slightly.

2. Aftermarket wheels

Wheels change the car’s stance more than any other bolt-on, and they’re usually the first part people notice. Choose a finish and spoke design you’ll still like in a few years. Gloss black, bronze and silver all suit the Supra’s shape, and the paint color should drive the choice.

Fitment is where mistakes happen:

  • Staggered sizing. The Supra runs wider tires at the rear. Published OE data lists 255/35ZR19 front and 275/35ZR19 rear tires for the 3.0, and 255/40ZR18 front with 275/40ZR18 rear for the US-market 2.0. A staggered set can’t be rotated front to back.
  • Trim matters. The 2.0 and 3.0 left the factory on different wheel sizes. A wheel that clears one trim’s brakes isn’t automatically cleared for the other. Ask the wheel maker to confirm caliper clearance for your exact trim and year.
  • Lug bolts, not nuts. The Supra uses lug bolts. Their seat type and length have to match the new wheel, so confirm the correct hardware with the wheel maker.
  • The spec sheet. Get the bolt pattern, center bore and offset in writing for your car. Ask whether you need hub-centric rings, and whether your tire pressure sensors will transfer.
  • Ride height. If the car is lowered, wider wheels or lower offsets can rub the fenders. Check clearance at full lock and under compression.

3. Front lip and side skirts

A front lip makes the car look lower without changing ride height. Side skirts carry the same line down the sides. Together they’re the classic way to make a Supra look more aggressive from a distance.

Read how each part mounts and what it’s made of. ADRO says its lip for the factory bumper uses integrated clips and screws, reinforced with adhesive, and matches the OEM mounting points. APR lists metal skid plates on the underside of its carbon air dam to protect it from minor scrapes. Maxton Design’s Street Pro splitter is 10 mm ABS plastic, a less expensive, impact-resistant alternative to carbon fiber.

Before you buy:

  • Match the bumper. A lip for the factory bumper won’t fit an aftermarket bumper, and the reverse is also true. ADRO, for example, sells separate lips for each.
  • Check the listed years. Catalog year ranges vary. Some list 2020–2023 only. If you drive a 2024–2026 car, confirm with the manufacturer.
  • Plan for clearance. A lower leading edge is more likely to touch steep driveways, curbs and parking blocks. Approach them at an angle.
  • Know what you’re buying. Some side skirts belong to a larger kit. ADRO’s V2 skirts include an integrated fender panel. Manufacturers often make aero claims for these parts. We’re treating them as cosmetic, and you should judge any performance claims on their own evidence.

4. Rear spoiler

A ducktail-style spoiler follows the trunk’s shape for an OEM-plus look. Styling illustration.

The factory trunk lid already kicks up at its trailing edge, so this upgrade comes down to taste. You can choose an OEM-plus spoiler that follows the trunk lines or a full wing. A spoiler that follows the factory shape adds depth without shouting. ADRO describes its prepreg carbon spoiler that way and lists it as requiring no modifications, with one exception noted below. A swan-neck or adjustable wing, like those from ADRO and APR, makes a far bigger statement and suits a track-car look.

Fitment caveats:

  • 2026 Final Edition owners: ADRO notes that the Final Edition’s OEM spoiler is panel-bonded to the trunk, with bolts molded into it. Removing it damages the panel, and the bodywork has to be repaired before the ADRO spoiler can be fitted. Expect paint and body costs, not a bolt-on job.
  • Wings: ask how the wing mounts and whether you’ll need to drill the trunk before you order. That decision is hard to undo.
  • Finish: match the carbon weave and gloss level to your lip and mirror caps, so the pieces look like a set.

5. Carbon mirror caps and small trim

Carbon mirror caps add a small detail that ties in with the rest of the trim. Styling illustration.

For a smaller visual change, start with replaceable trim. Carbon mirror caps add a detail you notice up close without reshaping the car. AutoTecknic lists its Version II dry-carbon covers as direct OEM replacements for 2020-up A90 mirrors, sold as a driver and passenger pair. The same catalog includes carbon door-handle trims, which attach with adhesive tape and are listed as keyless-entry compatible, plus a stick-on carbon overlay for the passenger-side interior vent.

Smoked sequential LED mirror turn signals are another small detail. AutoTecknic lists its A90 version as plug-and-play. Lighting changes are subject to local equipment rules, so check yours before you buy.

Small trim works best when it matches. Pick one carbon finish, gloss or satin, and one weave, then carry it through the mirror caps, lip and spoiler.

Before you order anything: a fitment checklist

  • Model year: catalog ranges differ, and the 2026 Final Edition’s factory spoiler changes rear-spoiler fitment.
  • Trim: 2.0 or 3.0 (including Premium and special editions), for wheel and brake clearance.
  • Transmission: manual or automatic, for paddle shifters and steering wheel configuration.
  • Factory controls: whether your steering wheel has the extra tech / driver-assistance buttons.
  • Ride height and existing aero: both affect lip clearance and which lip fits.
  • Keep the factory parts: store them in case you sell the car or change your mind.
